Summary

The purpose of this challenge was to design a remote control application for an iPhone that could control your TV and worked in tandem with a DVR or Comcast's xfinity.

The focus was then narrowed into developing three use-cases:

  1. Find a particular program to watch now
  2. Create a list of programs to watch this evening
  3. Once watching a recorded show, navigate to a particular point in time within the show
  • Role: UX Designer

RESEARCH

To start the design process, I began by researching the current product and competitors. I looked into customer satisfaction, application design, and the challenges that the products face.

By researching competitors and similar markets, I delved into exploring other applications to find inspiration in how they tackled problems through design choices.

PERSONAS

My target audience for this project was tech savvy college students that watch shows on demand. Based off this, I created personas to help guide design priorities and decisions.

IDEATION

With my research, inspiration, and personas in hand, I started sketching out some potential user flows and posing questions.

From these sketches, I moved to wireframes on Sketch to help frame the user interface design and experiment with different elements and actions. Below are a couple variations of the default 'search' view where I experimented with methods of narrowing a search.

USE CASE FLOWS

1. Find a particular program to watch now

2. Create a list of programs to watch this evening

3. Once watching a recorded show, navigate to a particular point in time within the show
